Your First Thought Is Rarely Your Best Thought: Lessons on Thinking
In each of these three posts, Shane Parrish digs into a particular aspect of critical thinking. In "Your First Thought Is Rarely Your Best Thought," he advocates for making time for thinking. In our incredibly packed schedules these days, most of us don't slow down and carefully consider multiple options—and that's a mistake. In "Eager to Be Wrong," Parrish explains why it's more physically and mentally comfortable to stick to our existing opinions and challenges us to actively learn about opposing or contradictory ideas. And in "Much of What You're Going to Do or Say Today Is Not Essential," he takes us through a typical day of the modern knowledge worker and points out that while we're doing more busy work, we're doing less real work. Parrish urges us to consider whether our activities are essential, and if not, to avoid doing them. It's much easier said than done, but definitely worth reading—and deeply considering—this post!
